Enhancing Sickle Cell Care – The Role of the Pharmacist

Overview Course Description To commemorate World Blood Donation Day and World Sickle Cell Day 2025, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana is hosting a CPD-accredited virtual training that brings together pharmacists, healthcare stakeholders, and individuals affected by Sickle Cell Disease to explore the latest in disease management, patient-centered care, and the critical role of blood donation. Through expert presentations, personal experiences, and public health insights, the event aims to strengthen the pharmacist’s contribution to SCD care and encourage broader participation in life-saving blood donation initiatives. What you will learn By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 1. Describe the pathophysiology and clinical complications associated with Sickle Cell Disease. 2. Identify the most recent pharmacological treatment options for managing SCD. 3. Optimize medication use and support treatment adherence in SCD patients. 4. Advocate for and participate in blood donation campaigns as a pharmacist-led public health initiative. 5. Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to expand access to standard SCD care through public-private partnerships. 6. Appreciate the lived experiences of individuals with SCD to deliver more empathetic and holistic care.
