Country Natural Beef, a cooperative of around 100 ranchers in the Pacific Northwest that implements regenerative ranching practices to raise high quality beef. It’s a complete grass-fed system, as cattle are raised on grass their entire lives, even at finishing. While grain is provided to feedlot cattle, they are still housed on pasture, making it a unique system. It’s also a full-circle system, as the coop then markets premium beef to restaurants and retail chains in the PNW and across the country. Their biggest customer is Whole Foods, providing Gap-4 certified beef to the retail chain. We sit down with Beau Klose, Vice President of Sales and Inventory at Country Natural Beef, and Dan Probert, owner of Lightning Bolt Cattle Co., to learn how they manage the land, care for animals and, through their marketing program, provide a sustainable business for their families. They’re also able to meet consumer demand for high quality, ethically-raised beef.
