Breaking the News Screening & Panel Discussion

Who decides which stories get told? A scrappy group of women and LGBTQ+ journalists buck the white male-dominated status quo, banding together to launch The 19th*, a digital news startup aiming to combat misinformation. A story of an America in flux, and the voices often left out of the narrative, the documentary Breaking the News shows change doesn’t come easy. Join us February 22nd at 7:00pm for a virtual screening with a panel discussion to follow. We will hear from journalists, writers, and filmmakers based in Maryland who can speak to their own experiences in the complex world of media. MEET THE PANELISTS: Alanah Davis (Moderator): Lead Baltimore Reporter, Technical.ly Rahne Alexander: Senior Publicist, Hopkins Press Jasmine Vaughn-Hall: Neighborhood/Community Reporter, The Baltimore Banner Noel McNealy-Webster: Lead Digital Video Specialist, Maryland Public Television Amy Oden: Senior Director of Video, Human Rights Campaign CONVERSATIONS FOR CHANGE: Join MPT as we explore a variety of films that prompt thoughtful discussion about race, empowerment, leadership, growth, and more. We encourage your participation and feedback, and welcome your ideas about ways to engage the community.
