Echo Effects of the Microaggression: Lessons Learned from a New Zealand Restorative Dialogue after Public Harm

After sports broadcaster Joey Wheeler’s post-game joke on air achieved viral attention as a racist trope, he participated in a restorative dialogue that changed his perspective on the impact of these comments and deepened his understanding of how micro-aggressions and white privilege influence how racism is experienced by Asians in New Zealand. In this webinar, Joey will share his experience with the process and the insights that emerged alongside restorative facilitator Haley Farrar, who will discuss the facilitation decisions, limitations, and creative methods employed to enable the process. They will be joined by Jeremy Simons, a researcher exploring the wider context of how restorative approaches can be applied in ecosystems of online-offline conflict and harm.
