Discovery Series: Savani Latin Jazz LIVE STREAM

Elspeth Savani has always wanted to do a Maine tour and now the time has finally come!  Elspeth grew up in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, but spent most of her adult life on the West Coast pursuing the art of traditional Cuban music and latin jazz. Orchestra Zarabanda, the 11-piece dance band which she directed and performed with for two decades, was her primary training ground, logging hundreds of performances and two major recording projects. Her 2007 CD with Zarabanda “Gallo Que Canta” received critical acclaim. In that same year, Elspeth was nominated for “Best Emerging Artist” by Earshot Jazz in Seattle. In 2008, Elspeth and pianist Julio Jauregui joined forces to form Savani Latin Jazz, expanding into elements of Brazilian, Peruvian and Argentinian music in addition to both standard and original Cuban repertoire. The quartet has since been showcased all over the Northwest, including at the Earshot Jazz Festival, the Triple Door, and Jazz in the Valley.  Savani Latin Jazz will be bringing their irresistible mix of Cuban rhythms and the lilting, timeless melodies of South America for this special, long-anticipated OLS performance. Come share in the warmth and vibrancy of the music and feel free to bring your dancing shoes!
