Holding Court: How the Supreme Court Divided America

Please join us on Tuesday, December 5 at 3pm EST for a conversation about Michael Waldman’s book The Supermajority: How the Supreme Court Divided America and what it can teach us about the current 2023-2024 Supreme Court term. Hosted by Alliance for Justice, the discussion will feature Michael Waldman, President and CEO of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, and Rakim H.D. Brooks, President of Alliance for Justice. In the last few Supreme Court terms on the ultraconservative 6-3 Trump installed majority, we have seen some bombshell decisions impacting everything from abortion access to LGBTQ+ rights to gun safety laws to affirmative action. Polling conducted by various entities, including Pew Research Center and Hart Research, show that confidence in the current Supreme Court is drastically falling. Additionally, this year has seen reporting that demonstrates wild ethical lapses by Justice Clarence Thomas and other justices. The overturning of precedents and Court overreach, the low favorability rating, and the ethics scandals are clearly plaguing the highest Court in the United States. Michael Waldman, President and CEO of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law explains these concepts and more in his newest book, The Supermajority: How the Supreme Court Divided America. He closely examines the 2021-2022 Supreme Court term against the backdrop of the history of the Court, while providing much needed potential solutions to reform the Court. StreamYard webinars do not have automatic captioning, but the event will be streamed on YouTube (youtube.com/alliance4justice) and Facebook (facebook.com/AllianceforJustice), both of which have captions. The event will be recorded.
