Sherman Elementary School’s principal Cortney Stauffer and teacher Tyler Keefe teamed up four years ago to turn the school into a STEM-based school. During that process, they realized they had to strengthen the Nampa School District’s connection to parents, teachers, and students and bring them more on board for the change. They implemented StreamYard’s live and recorded video capabilities to create a virtual newsletter to alert parents of upcoming events. The school became an Apple Distinguished School: a large component of that was due to the outreach to the community that they did through StreamYard. Cortney moved into the position of Executive Director of Operations in the District and Tyler the Digital Communications Specialist. They have continued to use StreamYard, but have broadened their efforts to include filming of assemblies, classroom activities, student project expos, sports games, and even a podcast.
The Nampa School District has found other ways to use StreamYard besides their "digital newsletter." “I think we're finding ways that it wasn't necessarily intended for. We're finding a lot of ways to be able to create inside of it and produce engaging videos, engaging opportunities, and really meaningful experiences for everybody involved”
Stauffer and Keefe found StreamYard easy-to-use and learn so they can focus on their content. “I found it very intuitive…It's pretty turnkey. If you turn it on, you can start working in it fairly easily.”
